Turning Trails to Triumph

Blog Post created by David Feldman Champion on Mar 16, 2016

If there’s one lesson we all need to learn it’s, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade."  So simple, yet so profound.  And the truth is life always throws challenges and adversity our way.  It’s our job to do what we can to embrace the difficult and come out on top.  The most successful people in the world are so because they have overcome difficult circumstances and made the best of it.

Take Kris Carr for example.  As a 32 year old enjoying a normal life, she was diagnosed with a rare and incurable Stage IV cancer.  Those of us resigned to the news would have taken the time we had left to enjoy our families, put our affairs in order.  Some would deny what was happening and search for other opinions, more options.  Carr did what the few would do; she challenged the diagnosis and fought.  She revamped her lifestyle completely and used this experience to write a series of self-help books.  She created documentaries.  She launched a website that is now followed by thousands of people.  Carr is now marking more than a decade of not just surviving or living with cancer, but thriving with it.  She is considered a prominent experts on healthy living.

We can take Carr's story to heart.  Whether we are facing challenges to our health, our personal lives, with our families, our careers, we must meet them head on.  How we react to these trials will lead to success...or not. No matter what life throws your way, the same steps apply to conquering the obstacle.

Step 1:  Think Positively

Positive thinking may seem like an ineffective, unremarkable way to change your circumstances…  I can argue it is the most important!  Positive thinking influences your behavior.  If you think something is possible, it becomes possible.  The way we view ourselves and our situations lends tremendous power to the outcomes we see.  Finding the positive end to an unfortunate event will help you figure out how to achieve it.

Step 2: Create Goals

The belief that what is happening to you will end the way it's meant to can be comforting.  Setting goals to guide you through a difficult time will allow you to keep your focus on the outcome and ensure it is the best you can achieve.

Step 3:  Never Give Up

The success stories we hear about the rich and famous often have the same moral:  Never give up.  How many household names have earned that status because they refused to take no for an answer?  To overcome the challenges you face and to create success from adversity, you must never give up fighting.  Every day is a new opportunity to take that one step closer to the end, to a positive resolution, to success.  Grab that opportunity!  Make it yours.

How we choose to handle adversity defines our character. Your actions are the cornerstone for how your life will unfold.  Those who fight to conquer the challenges life throws at them are able to achieve their goals and earn success.  Those who choose to sit back and let events unfold as they may, are not.  The question is: What will you do with the lemons life gives you?
