After the failure of the latest round of OPEC talks in Doha on April 17th, it begs the question, if the Cartel cannot come together in order to restrict pricing or production, what is the purpose of the Cartel, and is it in effect dead?
- Yes, OPEC obviously no longer has control over pricing or competition, therefore the Cartel is dead.1
- No, this downturn is an outlier and OPEC is regrouping.0
- Who knows? There are too many unknown variables to determine if OPEC will be able to recover to a position of power and strength.5
