After tinkering around the site a bit, I really like the Pink Petro landscape. I've added the Jive tool to my browser and I feel like I'm ready to rock and roll. Can I set up my own blog or group under my Pink Petro profile?
We have not turned on blogs for individuals yet. Its a global setting - so if you get it, everyone gets it. I'm not against it but It was a decision I made during the beta test because so many people think a blog is a "post" when really its a place to provide original content and knowledge. But, we are giving access to members who show an interest in blogging in specific spaces - for instance Pink Petro University is our premier place for bloggers. Do you have a topic in mind? We may already have a community for you to provide content or do you want a personal space, for something specific?
Likewise we have a group called The Ex and we will be brining on new communities.
You can definitely start conversations, discussions, and Q/A in any of the spaces including Shell and Halliburton. Have you downloaded JIVE anywhere yet? It's a Pinning tool that allows you to bring in content into the platform from other websites. Go to TOOLS on your home page under the profile are with your avatar to get to Jive Anywhere. It's SLICK.
And as far as you starting a group - I'd be happy to hear what you'd like to start and we could get a community built!
Thanks, Katie! I was thinking it would be great to have a space to show volunteer and continuing education opportunities and experiences - as I come by them a lot. But my interests are geo-centric and generally Houston, Texas, Gulf Coast, US centric. I didn't want to clutter up the global space with that stuff since the community serves a broader cross-section, but thought if I could share things in my own space it would still be accessible to those who have similar interests.
Yes, I have downloaded the Jive tool. It IS pretty slick, though still trying to get the hang of it. It's a little unclear to me (I know this is still a brand new platform) which areas we have rights to post and which we don't. It seems I only have rights to post in the Community Help area, which doesn't seem the right place for content I'd want to share (The OGM article I recently posted, for instance). I thought if I had the ability to create my own group within my profile space I could share things there via the Jive plug-in. Again, it wouldn't clutter the space where the broader community is dialoguing, but would be accessible to those with similar interests (followers).
Maybe I'm just too much of a newbie at this?
I am NOT complaining! Pink Petro is awesome!!!
Oh I know you're not complaining. We are wide open to ideas. Would you like to suggest education opportunities and experiences? If so check out the Events space and the "suggest an event". If you fill out all the details there we can get the events up for sure. If we gave everyone access to events I worry that we might not get them tagged right so they aren't picked up by Jive's insanely AWESOME search. Have you noticed when you do @ you can search for anyone, anything, and place? It's really a neat search tool! Plus it calls out people and things you've seen across PP that you love.
And don't worry we're all learning. I still run into some access challenges. Just ask. If you and Brittany Thomas think having personal blogs would be good we can certainly consider it. Right now you should be able to post discussions in any community. You do have to FOLLOW the community and or JOIN. In "Groups" you can post blogs. Right now The Ex is a group if you join you can blog but it's specific to topic. For things you want to share you can post those to the community (those who follow you) will see those in your status. Does this help?
Also, Jive anywhere let's you pin - it's like Pinterest. What I love about it is you can bring in content from anywhere and talk about it without the whole world watching.
So this brings me to a question - we are thinking about doing brownbag sessions for newbies - webinars to show you how to get around in addition to the videos we publish. Would this help?
I'm all ears, Dianna. This is our community and you're opinions are important to us. We want to this to be the most social place on the planet for women in energy....!
