How does the status field get updated? My update is a week old and I don't know how to change it. Thanks
Each status update is its own separate post. You can post a new status update in 2 easy steps:
1) On the homepage (community.pinkpetro.com) click on the "View All Activity" button.
2) Once there, you can post a new status. You may choose to write something out, include a link, attach a photo or video, and even tag another community member using the @ sign.
I hope this helped clear things up. If you have any other questions, feel free to reply via the comments or direct messaging!
Thank you. You answered the question. No good deed goes unpunished! I read somewhere how to mark a question as answered but now I don't recall and would like to close this one since you did such a great job with your response.
Is closing a question something I can do for myself? If the answer is yes. When you can, maybe send me the link on how to do this, so I don't have to bother you again in the future. Thank you!
It really is no bother! That's what I'm here for. I have marked the question as answered myself. Another member recently told me she did not see the "Mark as correct answer" button, so I'm thinking this option is only available to community administrators. Will look into seeing if that can be changed so that the person who asked the question can mark it as answered.
Thanks for your positive feedback
Ok Thanks for the reply. Enjoy the rest of your day...
It seems to depend on whether it was a "question" that was asked or simply a post that was created, whether the helpful button appears.
That is correct, Heather. Additionally, some users with admin access see a second button that can mark an answer as correct.
Clare McNamara - here is a perfect example of where I struggle with this platform. Something as basic as a status update should not need a question, and complex answer, to help people complete the task. I have come back to this post several times to refresh my memory, as the platform is not intuitive enough (to me) for it to stick in my brain.
Maybe I will ask Katie about spending 30 minutes with the platform people, to see if there is something I am missing.
Good plan. If we are struggling our members will be too.
Re statuses-- The problem with them is they are not searchable. Billy Volpone or Tom Resing may want to comment here so I'm not out of turn. We made a design choice in the beginning that we didn't want to open to some big feed...but we could definately I believe design this so you could view your streams and statuses. I believe though a status bar can be enabled everywhere if we wanted. Ben Zweig should know since he is the Master Designer.
The good news is the new JiveX cloud release in a few weeks has a lot of user experience/design elements added to help folks better engage. We had planned to launch "field trips" community as a way for people to post statuses etc.
Then I shall “stay tuned”
Status updates are searchable.
Here's an example:
The content in the screenshot about with the yellow clipboard icons are status updates.
There could be other reasons status updates were de-emphasized here.
Ok well I stand corrected. I think we aren't prominently displaying it for a reason. Billy Volpone at one point I thought told me there was a compelling reason why. The other challenge with status updates is that people use them to share stuff but for those who don't have followers, they aren't sharing, know what I'm sayin?
Yup, you're spot on Katie. I think the key is that it's a strategy decision but personally, I think they often lead to many people posting question in status updates that are searchable but still hard to get back to. For example, while they show up in search, they don't "pop back up to the top" of a stream like threads do when new comments come in. I always prefer discussions for open ended topics or specific Q&A, like we're having here.
We would love to hear how users are struggling with how intuitive (or not) PinkPetro is... Heather Gillbanks, you mentioned that specifically and would love to hear your thoughts. Much of this just seems like phrasing issues and where we should instead be pointing users to ask questions (ie: maybe we should turn status updates off, unless there is a desired use case for those short/quick updates).
On a side note though, be default, anyone that authors a discussion and marks it as a question should be able to see the option to mark a comment as "correct". Let me know if this isn't happening and we can map out the solution. Thanks
Yeah I remember we didnt include the CREATE menu option because I think it meant that some people couldnt create certain content types that others could.
We could also just create a HTML widget on the main page (like the events one we have perhaps) that says "What's your status" ...and it would post the content into the main feed area. This is beyond my knowledge at this point but clearly we want a better way to be like Facebook and LinkedIn
