Should prices be higher on items for girls and women?

As we wrap up our Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve, what do you think about marketing items for girls/women at higher prices than for boys/men? "Researchers for the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs pored over toys, children’s clothing, adult apparel, personal care products and home goods sold in the city.  Controlling for quality, items marketed to girls and women cost an average 7 percent more than similar products aimed at boys and men."  See the link to the full article in the Washington Post below.
