Do you agree that employers should protect base pay, training and development during a downturn?

In this Houston Chronicle article published Jan. 1, 2016 entitled "Talent is still essential for Energy Companies Amid Oil Bust," Philip Tenebaum, the head of energy at consulting group Mercer, is interviewed. - Connecting People Through News


Mr. Tenebaum counsels employers to "understand what your employees value."  He notes that employees often prefer that an employer protect "base pay,  training and development."


His advice for employees is to have a "diverse base and broad mindset."  Also, stay "up to date on technology", communicate well cross-generationally, and be receptive to mentoring.
